Anti-corruption drive

RECENTLY a country-wide anti-corruption drive was organised, courtesy of the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) where thousands of young school children gathered in processions carrying placards and festoons etc. inscribed with anti corruption slogans. As a humble person of 85 years retired from a sector corporation non pensionable job, I have to revert to the context of my meagre income from house rent and savings certificate earnings. The other day I was travelling in a car belonging to one of my relations and heading towards Sonali Bank in Katabon area to collect the interest of my savings certificates. Suddenly a police official appeared and demanded a fine of Tk 1,200 in cash or otherwise a case was being lodged as the car was parked in a no-parking area. As a resident of Dhaka since 1950, I got a shock of my life and I had to pay in cash to the official. I was tempted to know if there are any car parking spaces in Dhaka. Surprisingly, Dhaka is a city of no-car parking space. Should the planners do something about it as I was penalised for nothing.
