The rate of point-to-point inflation in March recorded highest in last five months to 5.39 per cent as prices of daily essentials continue to rise, shows official statistics on Tuesday.

Since November 2016, the inflation rate was dropping but in March this year it reached the highest as the consumer price index (CPI) on both the food and non-food items increased significantly, according Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data, which was unveiled on Tuesday.

According to the BBS, the rate of point-to-point inflation recorded higher in October 2016 to 5.57 per cent. Then inflation continued a falling trend and dropped to 5.38 per cent in November, 5.03 per cent in December, 5.15 per cent in January 2017 and 5.31 per cent in February.

In January last year, the point-to-point inflation recorded highest at 6.05 per cent, BBS data showed.
