24,538 hectares of land under jute cultivation in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, May 14: The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Gopalganj, has taken up a programme to cultivate jute on 24,538 hectares of land with an production target of 2,31,645 bales in five upazilas of the district this season.

The DAE sources said Tosha variety is being cultivated on 23,310 hectares of land and the production target is 2,20,053 bales and local varieties are being grown in 1,228 hectares of land and the production target is 11,592 bales.

Ramzit Biswas, sub-assistant agriculture officer of Suktail union, said necessary inputs have already been provided to the farmers. "We expect to achieve a good jute production from the area this season", he added.

Samir Kumar Goshwami, deputy director (Agriculture), said the field officials are closely monitoring all the jute fields and also giving necessary suggestion regarding the farming process of the golden fibre.
