Ten cos grab 30pc turnover of prime bourse

Top ten traded companies Sunday captured more than 30 per cent transaction of the Dhaka bourse while Doreen Power Generations and Systems topped the turnover list.

Turnover, the most important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 5.50 billion on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on the day, which was 20 per cent lower than the previous session.

Doreen Power, Ratanpur Steel, ACI, Shahjibazar Power, LankaBangla Finance, Bangladesh Finance, United Power, Active Fine Chemical, Regent Textile and City Bank were the most-active shares in terms of value on the DSE.

Of them, share price of five companies advanced up to 3.34 per cent and four companies share price declined up to 8.04 per cent while one remained unchanged.

According to statistics available with the DSE, some 2.30 million Doreen Power shares were traded on Sunday, generating a turnover of more than Tk 306 million, which was 5.56 per cent of the day's total transaction.

The power generation company's share price hovered between Tk 131.20 and Tk 135.20, before closing at Tk 132.80 on the day, registering an increase of 0.91 per cent over the previous day.

Doreen Power, which raised Tk 580 million through initial public offering (IPO) by floating 20 million ordinary shares, was listed on the stock exchanges in early April, 2016.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 960 million and authorised capital is Tk 2.0 billion, while the total number of securities is 96 million.

The sponsor-directors own 75 per cent stake in Doreen Power, while institutional investors own 5.45 per cent, and general public 19.55 per cent as on April 30, 2017, the DSE data shows.

Ratanpur Steel featured a turnover worth Tk 281 million, capturing 5.10 per cent of the day's total turnover value. The steel maker's share closed at Tk 88.10, advancing 3.34 per cent over the previous day.

ACI emerged as third with shares of Tk 270 million changing hands. It was 4.91 per cent of the total turnover. The company's share price advanced 1.84 per cent to close at Tk 518.30 each.

Shahjibazar Power notched the fourth spot, with shares of Tk 143 million changing hands, capturing 2.60 per cent of the day's total turnover value. The power generation company's share price fell 1.62 per cent to close at Tk 145.80.
