No More Ransom advises six steps to prevent ransomware

FE Online Report
As massive cyber-attacks, identified as WannaCry, happened across the globe on Friday affecting 100 countries, six simple steps are there to prevent such attack known as ransomware.

Ransomware is an activity when hackers encrypt data or lock the system in a computer and ask for a sum of money to unlock the data. It is thus considered cyber terrorism.

Computer users can take some preventive steps as suggested by No More Ransom's website (https://www.nomoreransom.org/prevention-advice.html). These steps are as follows:

First, disconnect from the internet if there is any suspicious progress taking place.

Second, update the Windows security with the latest version of operating system.

Third, ensure file recovery system with full backup of data.

Fourth, install anti-virus and anti-ransomware software.

Fifth, do not click on suspicious links or attachments.

Sixth, enable the "show file extensions" option.
