Pushkar camel fair in Rajasthan

The Pushkar Camel Fair is a Rajasthani festival and organised every year. Held every November for five days, over 11,000 camels and horses are brought to be sold and/or traded, says a global media report.

Pushkar is a quiet town but this colorful festival attracts a lot of tourists. Although many don’t like promoting animal tourism when they think animals might be harmed in the process, the trading is a way of life for livestock owners, just as it is a proud moment to show off their best performing livestock.

The first part of the camel festival is for camel traders and the industry. Its pretty business on the trading grounds (located a stone’s throw from the town centre). The festival heats up when the mela grounds holds their events. This is when the crowd gathers and there are crazy spectacle events, like mustache contests, camel rides, camel decorating contests, camel races, etc.
