FE Online Report
Merchandise export to the United States (US) dipped in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year (FY17), according to the latest statistics of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

It showed that export to the US from Bangladesh dropped to US$4.79 billion in July-April period of the current fiscal year from $5.06 billion in the same period of FY16.

Thus export to the country’s largest market declined by 5.33 per cent during the period under review. The decline in export of clothing may be attributed to the decline in overall export to the US market.

Statistics available with the US Office of Textile and Apparel (OTEXA) showed that value of import of apparel from Bangladesh by the US declined to $1.36 billion in January-March period of 2017 which was $1.45 billion in the same period of 2016.

Total annual export to the US market was $ 6.22 billion in the past fiscal year.
