Stocks open lower amid slow activities

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw downturn in early trading Sunday as investors were mostly cautious to take fresh position on stocks.

Following the previous week’s correction, both bourses opened lower amid slow trading activities.

After 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell 3.43 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 0.94 points when the report was filed at 11.00am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX stands at 5,492, losing 4.22 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse shed 1.18.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE went down by 4.22 points or 0.08 per cent to stand at 5,492 when the report was filed.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips also fell 1.23 points or 0.06 per cent to stand at 2,023 points. However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 0.53 points or 0.04 per cent to reach at 1,274 points at 11:00am.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at Tk 778 million on the DSE.

Doreen Power topped the turnover chart with shares of Tk 117 million changing hands till then, closely followed by Ratanpur Steel Tk 59 million, Bangladesh Finance Tk 32 million, JMI Syringe Tk 30 million and City Bank Tk 29 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 104 advanced, 76 declined and 38 issues remained unchanged till 11:00am.

The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also saw negative trend till then with its Selective Category Index – CSCX – losing 1.18 points to stand at 10,317, also at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 34 gained, 26 declined and 16 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 25 million.
