Tank lorry, covered van workers threaten 48-hr strike in 16 dists

NAOGAON, May 13 (UNB): Truck, tanker-lorry, covered van and pick-up van owners and workers Oikkyo Parishad on Saturday threatened to go on a 48-hour strike on May 21 in 16 districts of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions if their 7- point demand is not met immediately.

Their demands included stopping of harassment in the name of checking driving licence on the highways, stopping unauthorised vehicles plying the highways and an end to harassment in issuing driving licence.

Naogaon district truck owner's association general secretary M Salah Uddin Khan Tipu made the announcement at a press conference held at Naogaon Pres Club on Saturday.

Earlier they observed a two-day strike on December 1 and 2 in 2016 but they withdrew the programme following the assurance of the government, said Salah Uddin.

If their demands are not met by May 23 they will announce tougher programme after Eid-ul-Fitr, he said.
