Use of technical fabrics crucial for apparel value addition

Bangladesh should look into technical fabrics for value addition in garment items, an industry leaders has said

Technical textiles are defined as any textile or garment that is not made for fashion and is primarily used for a function and prices of these garments are much higher than traditional t-shirts and trousers.

Quoting the BGMEA vice president Faruque Hassan, a statement issued by Messe Frankfurt said that items such as fire protective fabrics, gloves, sports shirts and army overalls could all be made of using technical textiles.

The BGMEA leader led a business delegation whose members visited the four day 'international trade fair for technical textiles and non-wovens' that ended Friday last.

BJ Geo Textile from Bangladesh exhibited their products, the statement added.

Alongside the show, Messe Frankfurt had Texprocess, which was the leading show for garment machinery supported by various machinery country associations from Germany, China, Japan, the USA and supported by the International Apparel Federation (IAF).

More than 1,500 exhibitors from 85 countries and almost 42,000 trade buyers visited the shows.
