Two suspected extremists killed in Rajbari shootout: RAB

Two persons have been killed in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Rajbari describes as a 'shootout'.

The incident has been reported from the district's Goalanda Upazila early morning Saturday, said Rajbari-based RAB-8 chief Rais Uddin.

The victims have been identified as Lalan and Bappi. The senior RAB officer said they belonged to extremist outfit Purba Bangla Communist Party (Lal Pataka).

The RAB conducted a raid at Upazila's Rakhalgacchi on a tip off that the banned group's activists were holding a meeting.

"Sensing law enforcers' presence, they opened fire forcing RAB to retaliate. Two bodies were found at the scene later," said Raisuddin.

The elite police unit said they found a pistol with ammunition, an AK-22 assault rifle and two shotguns, according to bdnews24.com.
