Police to seek 10-day remand for Banani rape accused Shafat, Shadman

Detectives will seek a 10-day remand for Shafat Ahmed and Shadman Sakif, the accused in the case filed over the alleged rape incident of two private university girls in a Banani hotel.

Deputy Commissioner of DB (North) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Sheikh Nazmul Alam, said the two arrestees were brought to Dhaka DB office from Sylhet early Friday and they are being interrogated, reports UNB.

They will be placed before the court in the afternoon with a 10-day remand prayer, Nazmul Alam added.

Earlier, on Thursday night police arrested Shafat Ahmed, 26, and Shadman Sakif, 24--two accused from the city's Pathantula area in connection with the case.

The two victims gave their judicial statements before a court in Dhaka in the case on Thursday.

Metropolitan Magistrate Nurun Nahar Yasmin recorded statements of the victims under section of 22 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

One of the rape victims filed a case with Banani Police Station on May 6 accusing five people.

Of the accused, Shafat and Nayeem were sued for 'raping' the two female university students while Shadman Sakif, 24, Shafat's driver Billal, 26, and his unnamed bodyguard for abetting in the crime.
