BNP may face deregistration for not joining polls: Quader

NOAKHALI, Apr 21 (UNB): Pointing at BNP, Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Friday there is a possibility of losing registration if any party fails to join election for two consecutive terms.

While talking to reporters after offering fateha at the grave of Advocate Momin Ullah, former general secretary of the district Awami League, he also said the government will not call anyone to the polls.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said the participation in the election is BNP's democratic right.

Mentioning that the election will be held as per the constitution, he said the government will only assist the Election Commission.

"All concerned will be under the EC during the election. The government will only carry out its routine work."

The ruling party leader also urged the local party leaders to stay away from the anti-party activities, warning that a list of those creating anarchy is being prepared.
