Ten cos capture 30 per cent turnover of prime bourse

Top ten traded companies grabbed nearly 30 per cent transaction of the premier bourse Wednesday while Shahjibazar Power Company emerged as the turnover leader.

The market prices of these companies rose up to 9.72 per cent compared to the prices of previous session.

Total turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) stood at Tk 6.84 billion, a 3.0 per cent lower compared to the previous session.

Shahjibazar Power, LankaBangla Finance, Saif Powertec, BDCOM Online, City Bank, DESCO, Islamic Finance, PHP First Mutual Fund, Beximco Pharmaceuticals and Prime Bank were the most-active shares in terms of value on the DSE.

Among the turnover leaders, Shahjibazar Power topped the chart with about 2.56 million shares of nearly Tk 386 million changing hands. It was 5.64 per cent of the day's total turnover value.

The power generation company's share price closed at Tk 151.10 each on the day, advancing 2.65 per cent over the previous session.

On Tuesday, two sponsors and two sponsor-directors of Shahjibazar Power  expressed their intention to sell collectively 1.50 million shares of the company at prevailing market price through stock exchange within April 30.

Shahjibazar Power, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 2014, disbursed 30 per cent cash and 3.0 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2016.

LankaBangla Finance notched the second spot, featuring a turnover of Tk 348 million. It was 5.1 per cent of the DSE's total turnover value. The company's share price advanced 2.84 per cent to close at Tk 54.30.

Saif Powertec emerged as third with Tk 217 million turnover value, capturing 3.17 per cent turnover. The company's share price closed at Tk 42.90, which was 4.38 per cent higher than the previous session.

BDCOM Online featured a turnover of Tk 178 million, capturing 2.60 per cent of the day's total turnover value. The company's share price jumped 9.27 per cent to close at Tk 33 each. It was the day's second top gainer.   

The company's share price jumped 32 per cent or Tk 8 each share in seven sessions. In response to a DSE query, the BDCOM Wednesday informed that there is no undisclosed price sensitive information of the company for recent unusual price hike.

City Bank was the fifth on the DSE's turnover list, with shares of Tk 166 million changing hands, capturing 2.42 per cent of the total turnover value. The bank's share price fell 1.36 per cent to close at Tk 36.40.

The turnover of DESCO was Tk 162 million which was 2.36 per cent of the market turnover. The state-run company's share price closed at Tk 58.10, advancing 3.20 per cent over the previous day.
