Six BD students get Khazanah scholarship

Six Bangladeshi students were awarded scholarship to study at foreign universities under the Khazanah Scholarship Programme, facilitated by Yunus Centre this year.

Among the awardees five were chosen for scholarships to study in graduate and postgraduate programmes in Malaysian Universities and another one was awarded for study in Cambridge University and University of California at Berkeley, says a press release.

The assessments for Khazanah Scholarship Program were held from January 23 to January 26, 2017 in Bangladesh.

After several screening phases, 18 candidates made it to the final. From the finalists, 6 students managed to win the scholarships.

Yayasan Khazanah Foundation offers scholarships to deserving candidates from Bangladesh, Indonesia and Palestine to study at different global universities every year.

Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus proposed to the CEO of Khazanah to offer these scholarships to Bangladeshi students in 2008. He agreed and since then this scholarship is given every year facilitated by Yunus Centre.

Khazanah Asia Scholarship Program was established in 2007 after Professor Yunus delivered the Khazanah Global Lecture at the Khazanah Foundation.

The Foundation has awarded a good number of scholarships to the children of Grameen families under this program starting in 2009.

So far, around 40 students have received the scholarship from Bangladesh through Yunus Centre since 2009.
