BCL activists, police clash in Ctg
Two Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists received bullet wounds in a clash with police Chittagong during a protest on Tuesday against construction work of the Chittagong Outer Stadium Swimming Pool.
Six others activists were also injured when police resorted to baton charge to disperse the 'unruly' BCL activists. Several policemen were injured in the clash that lasted for around 45 minutes, reports bdnews24.com.
The clash occurred around 4:30 pm on Tuesday during a blockade and rally organised by BCL at the port city’s Kazir Dewri intersection.
Several cars were also vandalised at that time. The BCL activists were eventually dispersed after police began to use shotguns loaded with scatter bullets.
"Two BCL activists were shot and at least six others injured," said Chittagong Metropolitan BCL General Secretary Nurul Azim Rony.
“We were protesting to save the playground,” he told reporters. “Our protest was announced in advance. But police attacked us unjustly.”
He demanded that immediate action should be taken against police ‘perpetrators’.
