‘Gunfight’ leaves six cops hurt in Cox’s Bazar
A ‘gunfight’ between a gang of robbers and law enforcers took place on Chakaria-Lama road at Kumari Bridge in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar in the early hours of Monday, leaving six cops injured.

Police said a team of police raided the area following a tip-off that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit a robbery in vehicles passing through the area around 3:30 am, according to agencies.

When the law enforcers reached the spot, the robbers opened fire on them. In retaliation, the cops fired back, triggering a gunfight.

Two constables sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight while four others, including assistant superintendent of police Matiur Islam and officer-in-charge (OC) of Chakaria thana Bakhtier Uddin Chowdhury were injured in a scuffle when they attempted to arrest  the robbers.

Finally, police arrested six robbers and recovered four firearms, 16 bullet shells and two sharp weapons from their possession.

The arrested robbers Abdur Rahim, Mozammel, Mohiuddin, Abul Hossain, Hossain Ali and Belal of Chakaria upazila. Of them, Belal was wanted in seven cases filed with Chakaria thana, said the OC.
