Call to protect birds from extinction
Bangladesh Bird Club and Bangladesh National Museum are jointly organising a bird exhibition at the Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the museum, reports UNB.
The 15-day exhibition titled 'Bangladesh, a Land of Birds', was inaugurated on Sunday, with a seminar also held to mark the occasion.
Adviser to Prime Minister for Energy, Power and Mineral Resources Dr Towfiq-e- Elahi Chowdhury attended the opening ceremony as the special guest while Chairperson of the Board of Management of Bangladesh Shishu Academy Selina Hossain was present as special guest.
They said in the ceremony that destruction of accommodation of birds, lack of food, use of excessive pesticide and a loss of balance in the environment are contributing to the extinction of birds heavily.
Speakers laid emphasis on increasing awareness among people about the lifestyles of birds, bird conservation, and significance of birds to the environment, to protect them from extinction.
