Radio facing big challenge

The big challenge for radio is how to attract younger audiences who prefer social media platforms such as Snapchat. Just over half of people between the ages of 15 and 24 listen to live radio, compared with 88 per cent of over-55s, according to a global media report on Saturday.
This is best illustrated by the decline of BBC Radio 1, which lost 1.0m listeners last year.
But all may not be lost. According to LBC presenter Nick Ferrari, who hosts the station’s breakfast talk show, the political turmoil sparked by Brexit and the US presidential elections has led to greater engagement from younger listeners. “What is really intriguing is how much younger the listeners and callers have become,” he said.
