Outbound travel spending ups

Spending on outbound travel from the country increased by around 27 per cent during first eight months of the current fiscal year (FY17), according to the latest statistics of the central bank.
It showed that under the trade in services, payments on travel stood at $356.7 million during July-February period of the current fiscal year.
The amount was $281.1 million in the same period of the last fiscal year (FY16).
The balance of payment statistics of Bangladesh Bank also showed that country’s income from tourism increased by 47 per cent during the period under review.
In the first eight months of the current fiscal year, receipts on travel sector stood at $159.2 million which was $108.2 million in the same period of the last fiscal year.
