Nation celebrating Pahela Baishakh

Bangladeshis are celebrating Pahela Baishakh 1424 amid much enthusiasm, fanfare and gaiety on Friday.
Different government and non-government institutions have organised various programmes acros the country such as carrying out grand musical and dancing programmes, bringing out colourful processions and thronging at Baishakhi fair to mark the nation’s biggest cultural festival.
Men, wearing punjabi, women wearing red-bordered sari, and children wearing bright and colourful dresses are thronging at traditional venues in different parts of the capital, including Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Udyan, Central Shaheed Minar, Dhaka University, Shahbagh, Dhanmondi Lake and Hatirjheel to celebrate this very special day.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Abdul Hamid have conveyed their greetings to the countrymen on the ocassion of Pahela Baishakh.
The day is a public holiday.
