Case against SUST BCL president over sexual harassment
SYLHET. Apr 12: A woman has filed a case against 8 Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit for sexually harassing her daughter.
The leaders include BCL president of SUST unit Sanjibon Chakracarty Partha.
Mahmuda Khanam, mother of a schoolgirl, who appeared in the SSC examinations from the city's Pathantola Bilateral High School this year, filed the case with the Sylhet 'Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Domon Tribunal' on Wednesday.
The other accused are Mahmudul Haque Rudro, Sazzad Riad and five others unnamed, said the tribunal's Public Prosecutor Abdul Malek.
The judge Muhitul Haque took cognizance of the complaint and asked the police for investigation.
The complainant in the case alleged the accused teased and assaulted her daughter physically when she along with a relative went to the SUST campus on Saturday afternoon.
As two journalists registered protests, they were also beaten up. When some other journalists reached the scene and asked about the matter, the BCL men also beat them.
There had been allegations of sexual harassment against the BCL men in the past, too. SUST acting Proctor Dr. Munshi Naser Ibne Afzal said complaints are under investigation.
