Easy Fly Express (EFX) Limited, having a paid up capital of BDT 200 million, has announced major expansion plans involving operation of scheduled air cargo services to international routes with its own carrier - a first for a Bangladesh cargo airline.

EFX, a Karnaphuli Group company, has been successfully operating its owned SAAB 340A aircraft in the domestic sectors for the past two years and has now finalised preparations to operate its aircraft additionally between Dhaka and Kolkata.

A press release said the company has secured designated carrier status from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh for operating scheduled cargo services between Bangladesh and Hong Kong, Delhi and China. A service to Dubai is also under active consideration.

To support its regional and international operations, EFX has just taken delivery from Aercap of an Airbus A300-600 freighter aircraft in a deal worth over one billion taka. Aercap, the Netherlands-based global leader in aviation, boasts 1566 owned, managed or on order aircraft in its portfolio and has over 200 customers in 80 countries.

A factory-built freighter, the wide-bodied Airbus A300-600 aircraft acquired by EFX - christened HR Dhaka - can carry 47 tons of cargo over a range of 7500 km.

The aircraft reached Dhaka on March 18 and will shortly commence scheduled services under registration mark S2-AIG.

Raimah Chowdhury, Group Financial Coordinator of Karnaphuli, said, "This significant investment represents a major commitment of the Karnaphuli Group to the Bangladesh air cargo sector. Other than saving valuable foreign exchange for the country, our scheduled services will greatly benefit exporters and importers alike. We are privileged to serve the trade as a home-grown cargo airline and look forward to further expansion of our fleet."

Group Captain (Retd) ShaukatUl Islam, Managing Director of EFX, said, "It's a historic moment in development of Bangladesh's aviation sector and we are excited to be the first and only Bangladesh cargo airline to be operating its own fleet of aircraft in the domestic, regional and international routes. We seek support and blessings of all concerned."
