BARI Wheat-25 gaining popularity among Gopalganj growers
GOPALGANJ, Mar 20: Farmers of Durgapur and Boiltali unions under Sadar upazila in the district are expecting a bumper production of BARI Wheat-25 this season.
Santosh Biswas, sub-assistant agriculture officer of Boiltali union said BARI Wheat-25 is being cultivated instead of the local ones this season as it is a high yielding and short duration variety.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Gopalganj, a total of 7,550 hectares of land of five upazilas in the district have been brought under the farming of BARI Wheat-25 cultivation with an expectation to produce 30,200 tonnes of output this season.
Kala Chand Bala, a farmer of village Golabaria in Durgapur union said he is cultivating the wheat variety on 26 decimals of land. He said sufficient supply of water and other agri-inputs will help boost the production.
Dulal Roy, cultivator of village Boiltali under Boiltali union, said he is growing BARI Wheat-25 in 52 decimals of land this year spending Tk 5,000. He expects to get 20 maunds of yield which present market price is Tk 22,000.
