Attack on Gaibandha police camp: 29 get bail
A Gaibandha court on Monday granted bail to 29 people in a case filed over looting arms from a police camp at Shahebganj Sugarcane Farm in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha last year.
Senior Judicial Magistrate ASM Tasquinul Haque passed the order when the 32 accused in the case sought bail after appearing before the court, reports UNB.
However, the court did not pass any order about three accused, general secretary of land recovery committee Shahjahan, Santal leaders Rafayel and Filimin Box.
Earlier, on August 9 last year, police arrested two Santal men from Sahebganj area when a group of Santal men were staging demonstrations demanding their rights for land and livelihood on the occasion of International Indigenous Day.
Protesting the arrest, the Santal men swooped on a police camp and looted arms after vandalising it.
Later police fled a case against 32 identified people, including Santal and Bangalee and 400/500 unidentified people in this connection.
