Families unwilling to receive bodies of Sitakunda militants

Two of the suspected militants killed during the March 15 raid on a Chittagong hideout were identified, but their families are reluctant to receive the bodies.

Kamal Uddin and his wife ‘Jubaida’ were among the four killed after a 19-hour stand-off between security forces and the suspected militants holed up in an apartment of a two-storey building at Sitakunda upazila, reports bdnews24.com.

Relatives on Monday identified the couple, who hailed from the hill tracts district of Bandarban, at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital's (CMCH) morgue.

"I had never imagined he would do something like this," Kamal Uddin's father Mozaffar Ahmed said.

He said police got in touch with them after the raid. "I heard of it from the locals later and today I identified him. I will not take the body," said the resident of Bandarban's Naikhyongchari Upazila.

Jubaida’s father Nurul Alam and brother Ziabul Haque also identified the body on Monday.

Both of the families hail from Naikhyongchari's Baishari Union Council.

“I will not receive the body,” Alam, who came to the CMCH but sent his son to the morgue for identifying the body, said.

Jubaida’s other brother Zahirul Haque Jashim and his wife Arjina were arrested from another hideout at Sitakunda town some hours before police's raid on the building, where the couple and two other suspected militants died.
