Two schoolgirls ‘take life’ in Gopalganj

Two schoolgirls ‘commit suicide’
A girl and her niece allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves in the Gopalganj district town on Saturday, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Chaitri Afrin Toma, daughter of Shahidul Zaman Mallik of Mangalpur village of Narail district, and her niece (sister's daughter) Jakia Sultana Sraboni, daughter of Jakir Mollah of Barfa village in Sadar upazila of Gopalganj.

Toma and Sraboni were class IX and VIII students of Gopalganj Girls' High School respectively.

The girls locked their room from inside after returning home from their school around 3:00pm, said Toma's cousin Fatema Begum.

The family members started knocking the door after their tutor came in the evening, she said.

As they did not respond to repeated calls, the family members entered the room breaking open the door only to see them hanging from the ceiling, said Fatema.

Later, they were taken to Gopalganj General Hospital where doctors declared them dead, said officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Selim Reza.

A UD case was filed.
