Integrity: A supreme leadership quality
INTEGRITY is unquestionably a supreme quality for leadership. No real success is possible without it, no matter whether it is on a football ground or in an army, or in an office. We have many examples like that in our country. Among them there is one person who is a Bangladeshi American who changed the meaning of learning. His name is Salman Khan.
Salman is an American entrepreneur best known for founding the free online educational site Khan Academy. A graduate of MIT and Harvard Business School, he was listed as one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people of the world. He is the founder of the Khan Academy, a non-profit educational website which is now the largest virtual 'school' in the world with over 10 million students.
Khan developed an interest in education while tutoring his cousin, Nadia. Initially communicating via an internet tool, Khan began posting his mathematics tutorials on YouTube in 2006. The videos attracted millions of viewers. In 2009, Khan quit his job as an analyst to devote himself full-time to the set of videos that eventually formed Khan Academy. The academy provides free online instruction to students across the world.
While initially targeting individuals, Khan Academy has also been of immense use to classroom teachers in need of supplementary material in science and mathematics. Khan has emphasised on the importance of formal classroom instruction and professional certification in combination with the software and online tools that his company provides.
The success of Khan Academy brought significant media attention to its founder. Khan has been profiled in print and interviewed on television. His efforts attracted funding from major donors, including Google and Microsoft. Microsoft founder Bill Gates stated that he uses Khan Academy software as part of his own children's education. Among Khan's speaking engagements were commencement addresses at MIT and Rice University, both of which he delivered in 2012.
