Question paper leaks

These days question papers of different public exams are being traded openly (in social media) among students like 'products of daily necessity'. So, students as well as their parents purchase those with great joy. Students memorise answers to questions overnight and reproduce those in the answer scripts and consequently cross the hurdles with credit. It is a matter of great regret that a section of the parents encourages this crime. According to them, their children will suffer in the long run if they do not do well in their exams.

Our education system is also responsible for this malady. About Tk.61.66 billion was allocated for education for 2016-17 fiscal, which is 5 per cent of the total budget. While allocation for education is increasing every year, it is a matter of great regret that reasons and sources of question paper leakages are still unknown and uncovered. As a result, the criminals responsible are still at large.

Facebook, which is a social media for communications, is a great way of revealing questions safely. There are certain groups on Facebook called 'SSC exam question 2017 Dhaka Board' and 'SSC 2017 100% common question' post question papers the night before the exam and accept online payment after the exams are held. Last year, the question papers were circulated on Whats App, a mobile messaging service, which now offers to end 'encryption' meaning that the data is not accessible to everyone but only for those who are communicating.

The government must have proper vigilance against this crime. Otherwise the whole exam system will be destroyed. Firstly, the government must emphasise  moral values of the authority. Secondly, the government must penalise the offenders. Thirdly, the system of question paper-setting should be decentralised and different printing presses in every district should be selected for printing these papers. Finally, there should be minimum gap between dates of question paper printing and that of taking the exams.

After evaluating all aspects of the issue, I think that students can play the biggest role in this matter. They can abet this crime which will ultimately jeopardise their career.
