Attempt to attack RAB check post, ‘bomb-carrying’ man killed in firing
An unidentified ‘miscreant’ was shot dead as he tried to attack a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) check post at the Khilgaon area of Dhaka on Saturday.
Mufti Mahmud Khan, director of legal and media wing of RAB headquarters, said the miscreant, who was riding a motorcycle, made the attempt to attack the check post of RAB-3 around 4:35am with explosives, reports UNB.
Seeing the attacker, the RAB members opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot. Two members of the elite force were injured in the attack.
ASM Shakhawat Hossain, operational officer of RAB-3, said they found a bag near the body having two hand bombs. Meanwhile, a bomb disposal unit reached the spot is trying to defuse the bombs.
The motorcycle recovered from the spot had no number plate, the official added.
Meanwhile, bdnews24.com reports, RAB-3 Operations Officer ASM Shakhawat Hossain said, “He (the attacker) tried to throw something at the RAB personnel. Later, a huge amount of explosives were found attached to his body.”
Around 11am, RAB's bomb experts arrived on the spot to defuse the explosives found on the suspected attacker.
The identity of the man and the group he possibly belonged to were not yet known.
After the raids on militant hideouts at Chittagong's Sitakunda, a suicide bomber blew himself up on Friday at the RAB barracks in the capital's Ashkona, injuring two RAB personnel.
