Two Gaibandha villages come under rural electrification

GAIBANDHA, Mar 16: Two villages under Kholahati union of Sadar upazila in the district were brought under rural electrification network by Gaibandha Palli Bidyut Samity (GPBS) on Thursday.

A simple function was also held on the premises of Uttar Kholahati Govt. Primary School of the upazila at noon with secretary of GPBS M. Jahangir Alam Mondal in the chair.

Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini addressed the function as the chief guest and Sadar UNO Alia Ferdous Zahan and general manager (GM) of GPBS GHM Wahedul Haque were present as the special guests.

Whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini said the government led by Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina after assuming power in 2009 took initiatives to solve the country's power crisis through setting up new power plants.

By 2018, all the villages of the villages would be brought under rural electrification programme to turn the country into a middle income one through changing the living standard of the people, she also said.

Later, whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini formally inaugurated the electrification programme at Uttar Kholahati and Dakkhin Kholahati villages of the union by pressing a switch of a bulb as the chief guest.

A large number of people including the officials of GPBS, public representatives, social workers, political leaders and local elite were present on the occasion.

GM of GPBS GHM Wahedul Haque said as many as 105 families of the villages would get electricity facility from today to change their living standard through spot metering system innovated by him.
