Competition for better understanding of branding

For the first time in the Faculty of Business Studies of Dhaka University, Voice of Business (VoB) arranged a nationwide branding competition named Teer BRANDrill 2017. It is a branding based competition designed to give better understanding of branding to the students of different universities from all over Bangladesh. This competition was designed for marketing and branding enthusiast undergrads and was able to motivate many business students to participate and enhance their branding knowledge.  

The competition was launched on January 27, 2017 for registration and it was open till February 10, 2017. The main condition to attend in this competition was to form a team consisting of three to four members from the same university. Initially, 257 teams from different universities attended in the first round of the competition held on February 11. Most of them were from University of Dhaka, Islamic University of Technology, Bangladesh University of Professionals, North South University, Chittagong University, Khulna University and Jahangirnagar University.  After this round 46 teams qualified to compete for the next round which was held on February 19.  During the initial rounds the teams were given practical branding and marketing cases to solve.  After a serious competition, only 10 teams from different institutions were selected for the grand finale. In the final round the teams had to develop and present TV commercials, design IMC (Integrated Marketing Communication) strategy and examine IMC's effectiveness of two popular consumer brands of Teer - Teer Atta and Teer Tea.

 The grand finale of the competition was held on March 12, 2017 at Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building, University of Dhaka. The judges of the grand finale were Executive Director- Sales and Marketing of City Group Shoeb Md. Asaduzzaman, Bangladesh Brand Forum Founder and Editor Shariful Islam and Brand Building Director of Unilever Bangladesh Zaved Akhter. After the day-long competition the judges handed over the prize money and crests among the winners. Md Nurul Samnan, Fairuz Iqbal Promi, Zaid Bin Siddique and Niladry Sabir from team 'Crime Master Gogo' of North South University became second runners-up and received Tk 40,000 as prize money. Ahmed Fahad, Abtahi Iptesam, Kidwa Arif and Nowsin Islam of team 'Forza' from the Institute of Business Administration of Dhaka University became first runners-up and received Tk 60,000.  Md Aminul Bashir, Auntica Deb Nath, Sehtaz Rashid Chowdhury and Faiza Zahin of team 'Second String' from Bangladesh University of Professionals became the champion and received Tk 1,00,000.

The organising club, Voice of Business (VoB) is a 10-year old business club of Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka. Since inception, it has been organising case competitions with the intent of developing a competitive mindset among the business students and preparing them for the corporate world.
