Bogra eyes satisfactory output of off-season bitter-gourd
BOGRA Mar 15: The farmers and local agi-officials of the district are expecting a satisfactory production from the off-season bitter-gourd farming.
The vegetable is now growing excellently everywhere in the district including the vast Barind tract. Farmers are expecting to start harvesting from the next month.
The DAE has set a target of bringing around 450 hectares of land in 12 upazilas of the district this season but the farmers are cultivating the crop in 480 hectares of land, said farmer Korban Ali of Shibganj upazila.
"I had cultivated the off-season bitter-gourd in 0.30 acre of land last year spending Tk 8,000 and made a profit of over Tk 20,000", said Nur Islam of Amjhupi village. He further said he has brought more lands under the farming of the vegetable due to its high demand.
The officials of DAE urged the farmers to bring more lands under the farming of bitter-gourd and use latest agro-technology to boost its production.
