Remarkable success in growing Bina-9 Moshur in Magura
MAGURA, Mar 15: Growers have achieved remarkable success in cultivating BINA-9 Moshur this season.
The lentil variety, invented by senior scientific officer of BINA Dr Snigdha Roy, is highly productive, less vulnerable to cold injury and fungal infection and not vulnerable to root rot disease.
Scientific officer of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Magura, Shapna Rani Ghosh, said BINA-9 Moshur was cultivated in 50 decimals land in Moghi village under Sadar upazila on experiment basis. A total of 11 maunds of production have been achieved from the land.
Production rate of the lentil variety is much higher than the other local ones. Seven maunds of output can be achieved through cultivating BINA-9 Moshur in one bigha land against 2.5 maunds in common variety.
Farmer Mizanur Rahman said the production cost of BINA-9 Moshur is much lower. It is a short duration crop. Growers can harvest the crop by three months from its plantation.
DAE, Magura, official Gobinda Dash said soil and weather of the area is suitable for farming BINA-9 Moshur.
"Country produces around 32,083 tonnes of lentil every year. But the output may stand at 80,208 tonnes if BINA 9 variety can be cultivated across the country commercially.
