BD issues tender for eight multirole combat aircraft
Bangladesh's Directorate General of Defence Purchase (DGDP) has released a tender for eight multirole combat aircraft (MRCA) for the country's air force, with an option of purchasing four additional aircraft.
The fighters, which are to be procured in the FY18, will be employed by the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) to assist the country's army and navy in a number of roles, including air defence, anti-surface, counter-air, and maritime-air operations, the DGDP stated on its website on 28 February. Tender responses are due by 13 April 2017.
The tender requires the MRCA to be powered by two turbofan engines with minimum dry thrust of at least 5,500 kg, and 8,000 kg with afterburner (each engine), and to be capable of reaching a maximum speed of no less than Mach 1.6 while carrying air-to-air missiles.
