BGMEA to get 5.5 bighas of land at Uttara to build HQs
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will get 5.5 bighas of land at Uttara in the city to construct its headquarters.
The apex trade body of the garment sector will form several committees mainly to build it in line with laws of the land, sources said.
The committees will deal with the design, consultancy, approval and site monitoring, they said adding the BGMEA will form the committees shortly.
The move came following the government's confirmation that the Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakkha (Rajuk) will allocate 5.5 bighas of land to the BGMEA for the purpose.
''We are going to construct our headquarters at Uttara in the city following the government's confirmation about the land,'' BGMEA vice president Mahmud Hasan Khan told reporters on Monday.
He expressed his hope that they would obtain the registration of the land from the RAJUK shortly.
Following the rejection of the BGMEA's leave to appeal in the Supreme Court against the High Court order to demolish its building, the trade body chose a land at Uttara in the capital, people involved with the process said.
