Malibagh girder collapse: DSCC forms probe body
The Dhaka South City Corporation formed a committee to probe the girder collapse at Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover construction site that left one dead and two injured during the early hours of Monday.
Additional Superintendent Engineer of the Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) Abul Kalam Azad will head the three-member committee, reports bdnews24.com.
DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon made the announcement while visiting the spot at Dhaka's Malibagh on Monday.
Anyone found responsible for the fatality will be brought to book, said Sayeed Khokon.
"Government will take stern steps against any person or organisation found guilty by the probe body."
The mayor assured to financially compensate the family of the deceased, who was a worker of a hotel. The two injured will receive standard medical facilities, he said.
The girder was being lifted by a crane, and it fell as the cables snapped around 2am on Monday killing one person.
The mayor mourned the death and said, quoting the LGED chief engineer, that the accident occurred despite enough precautions set at the spot.
Sayeed said he came to visit the site on behalf of the local government minister who could not make it due to a cabinet meeting.
"I have spoken to him. He has expressed anger and sorrow over the incident," he said.
The mayor did not announce any deadline for the committee, or the amount of compensation that would be given to the victim's family.
