HC stays Viqarunnisa’s fee hike

The High Court stayed a fee hike imposed by the ad-hoc committee running Viqarunnisa Noon School and College.

The court has also issued a rule asking why the ad hoc committee running the educational institution in Dhaka will not be declared illegal and unconstitutional, reports bdnews24.com.

The education secretary and nine others were asked to reply within the next four weeks.

The High Court bench of justices Zinat Ara and Kazi Md. Ejarul Haque Akondo issued the order after hearing a petition on Monday.

The petition was filed by lawyer Yunus Ali Akhand who argued his own case.

The panel hiked monthly tuitions for the school section by Tk 300 and by Tk 500 in the college section. It has also imposed an annual Tk 500 fee on student.

"The court has halted the ad hoc committee’s fee hike for one year," said petitioner Akhand.
