GAIBANDHA, Mar 12: A committee was formed by Gaibandha Palli Bidyut Samity (GPBS) to help its consumers get instant electricity connection without any irregularity and harassment, officials said.

According to sources, the district administration has formed the committee named 'Innovation Circle' comprising departmental chiefs and other officials at the directive of Access to Information (a2i) programme of the PMO (Prime Minister's Office).

"The objective of the innovation circle is to provide services to the people in minimum time with low cost and few visits leaving the traditional service delivery system to lead the country towards desired development," said Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdus Samad.

GPBS General Manager DHM Wahedul Haque invented the creative idea entitled 'Easy to Electricity Connection' for the consumers living within the jurisdiction of the samity.

Under this innovation, the consumers are getting electricity connection from the samity within a day, without any additional cost and with a single visit keeping away any sort of harassment and corruption by brokers or dishonest staff.

Earlier, consumers suffered a lot, spend huge amount of money and have to spend 11- 63 days to get the connection. The BPBS officials had to visit the spots at  least a dozen of time to give the connection.

In spot metering system, a consumer is to deposit Tk 600 as meter fees, Tk 50 as samity membership fee and Tk 100 for application fee, said the officials adding that no excess money is needed to get the electricity.
