Sajina growers expect Tk 70m profit in Bogra
BOGRA, Mar 12: Sajina growers of the district are expecting a bumper production with a profit of over Tk 70 million this season.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) source said sajina cultivation is much easier than other crops but profit is high. Farmers can grow the vegetable in homestead, orchard and barren land spending a nominal amount of money.
Rezaul Karim, a farmer of Asunja village under Dupchacnhia upazila, planted 50 trees on the edge of the Bogra-Naogaon highway nearby Chaumuhony Bazar last year. He expects to make a profit of Tk 20,000 from the plants.
"I had sold each kg of sajina at Tk 30 to Tk 40 and earned Tk 22,000 from my small orchard last year," said Kalim Uddin of Kahaloo upazila.
"I have brought 0.10 acres of land under the farming of sajina spending Tk 400 for this year." he added.
Another cultivator Manik Mia said he is expecting to earn Tk 20,000 from his 0.08 acre of land. He said he is planning to expand the orchard for the upcoming season.
A DAE official said the farmers will get more crops if they cut the old branches of the plants every season.
