PM inaugurates water treatment plant in Ctg
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday inaugurated a water treatment plant in Chittagong.
The PM Inaugurated the plant at a function held at Chittagong Boat Club.
The plant has the capacity of producing 93 million litres of water on a daily basis, reports UNB.
Chittagong Water Supply Sewerage Authority (Wasa) took the project 'Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant' in 2006 to meet the demand of water for the port city dwellers.
Financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the work on the project began in 2010 and it went into operation in November last.
Chittagong Wasa now can supply only 210 million liters of water a day against the daily demand of 500 million liters.
With the launching of this plant, the city dwellers will get 143 million liters of water (MLD) more per day which will cover about 70 per cent of the total demand.
Now the Chittagong Wasa has a total of 61,717 domestic connections and 7,387 commercial and industrial connections now. It could not take any project after 1987.
Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Khondakar Mosharraf Hossain was present at the function as a special guest.
