Police arrest 17 in Chittagong on 'secret meeting tip-off'
Police in Chittagong have arrested 17 persons, who they say belong to banned outfits.
The arrests were made from the port city's Double Mooring area during raids on Saturday, reports bdnews24.com.
"We raided the area on a tip-off of a secret meeting. They arrests were made after surveillance in area for several hours," Double Mooring police OC AKM Mahiuddin told the bdnews24.com.
He, however, could not provide any definite information on the affiliations of those who have been arrested.
"We suspect there are activists of Hizb ut Tahrir, Ahle Hadis, and Jamaat-e-Islami among them. Some of them had been affiliated with the Jamaat, but later joined Hizb ut Tahrir."
The police officer said they have been booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
"We hope to gather more information after securing remand to question them."
