Tigers need 390 runs on the final day on Saturday with all the 10 wickets in hand to register their record maiden Test victory against Sri Lanka in the first Test of Joy Bangla Cup series at Galle International Stadium.
Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar were on batting at stumps on Friday collecting 67/0 in 15 overs when the rain interrupted the last session for the 2nd consecutive day of the match, reports UNB.
Soumya found his consistency in the match hammering back-to-back half century as he was unbeaten on 53 off 47 balls, including six boundaries and one over boundary, following 71 runs in the first innings.
Bangladesh (312 runs in the first innings) started the 2nd innings chasing a record target of 457 runs and reduced it to 390 runs where Tamim was batting on 13 off 44 balls with one four.
Suranga Lakmal, Dilruwan Perera and skipper Rangana Herath delivered 5, 6 and 4 overs respectively, but remained fruitless.
Earlier, Sri Lanka opened the 2nd innings with a lead of 182 runs in the first innings on the 4th day and extended the lead to 456 scoring 274/6-d in 69 overs, spurred by the century of opening batsman Upul Tharanga (115) and the unbeaten half century of Dinesh Chandimal (50).
Tharanga faced 171 balls for his 3rd Test century, featuring 11 boundaries and two over boundaries, before being bowled by Mehedi Hasan Miraz at 198/3 in 54.4 overs.
Dilruwan Perera (33), opener Dimuth Karunaratne (32), Kusal Mendis (19) and Niroshan Dickwella(15) were the other double-figure scorers for the side.
Miraz and left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan picked up two wickets each conceding 77 runs and 104 runs respectively while Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed took one wicket each for 24 and 32 runs.
