Ex-students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST)’s statistics department will gather for a reunion, the first of its kind in 25 years of the department, on March 31-April 1.
They are looking forward to joining the event and meeting their teachers, friends and other alumni as well as feasting their eyes on the beloved campus and its greenery.
Current students of the department will receive the former students and the organisers are working relentlessly to make it a success.
Former students, from as far as the first batch to as recent as the last batch, are expected to join two-day long programme that includes rally, cultural events and an international seminar.
SUST Vice Chancellor Prof. Md Aminul Haque Bhuyan, statistics department teachers and noted guests from home and abroad will attend the programme.
Also a professor of the statistics department, Dr. Mohammad Taj Uddin is the convenor of the reunion organising committee.
He said Assam University vice chancellor Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, statistics department chief Dr. Dibyojoti Bhattacharge and country director of Population Council Mr. Ubaidur Rob are expected to join the event.
“Besides, Public Service Commission’s Chairman Dr. Mohammad Sadik is expected to attend the reunion,” Taj Uddin said.
At the programme, the SUST statistics department will also bid farewell to its former chief Professor Emad Uddin Chowdhury, also one of the most senior teachers in the university.
Associate Professor Dr Luthful Alahi Kawsar is working as the secretary, while another Associate Professor Dr Khalidur is the treasurer of the reunion committee.
Mr. Kawsar said, “We are trying our best to make the reunion successful.”
Proshanto Roy, a student of the first batch, said on the designated Facebook page of reunion that all sources of his love centre on the university campus.
A novelist and film maker, Mohammad Mufazzal reflected on the days of the campus and said “Time is really an old gipsy man. It seems everybody will feel happy to attend the programme.”
