Three community clinics in Gaibandha Char areas start operation
GAIBANDHA, Dec 1: Overall activities of three community clinics (CCs) established in remote char areas of two upazilas in the district started today amid much enthusiasm among the char dwellers.
According to sources Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Wash project is being implemented by Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and Swiss Red Cross (SRC) at Mollarchar and Kamarjani Unions of Sadar Upazilas and Holdia Union of Shaghata Upazila here since 2013.
Under the project, the infrastructures for the resource centres cum community clinics were constructed at the project command areas this year for the char people of the unions.
On Thursday, the clinics started its journey aimed at providing primary health care services to the char people to build a healthy nation.
A simple function jointly organised by BDRCS, SRC and Community Base Health Care of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was also held on the premises of Mollarchar resource centre of the project.
Civil surgeon (CS) Dr. Nirmalendu Chowdhury formally inaugurated the clinics at noon by cutting red tape as the chief guest and deputy director, planning and resource division of health department Dr. Sukumar Roy and secretary of BDRCS, Gaibandha unit, M. Rezaul Karim, were present at the event as the special guests.
The function was also addressed, among others by manager of DRR Wash project Golam Mostafa and local union parishad chairman Aynal Haque.
Speaking on the occasion, CS Dr. Nirmalendu Chowdhury said the char people particularly the mother and the children of the unions would get primary health care services with 30 kinds of medicine from the community health care providers of the community clinics free of cost.
Apart from it, the pregnant women of the chars would also get ante and post natal cares including check up facilities from the clinics, the CS added.
