Man dies as elephants go on rampage in Sherpur
A man was killed in an attack by wild elephants at Sandhakur village of Jhenaigati upazila on Wednesday night, reports a news agency.
The deceased was identified as Uttam Manak, 55, son of late Madal Sangma of the area.
Md Selim Reza, Jhenaigati upazila nirbahi office, said a herd of elephants numbering 25-30 came down the hills in the evening and damaged paddy fields in the area.
When the locals tried to ward off the elephants, Uttam Manak was trampled by them and got critically injured, he added.
Locals rescued him and took him to Jhenaigati Upazila Health Complex and later he was shifted to Sadar Hospital for better treatment. However, he died around 9:30pm, the UNO said.
