IPU chief Saber Hossain meets Ban Ki-moon
President of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Saber Hossain Chowdhury met United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday.
In the meeting, Saber expressed firm conviction that institutional and strategic relationship between the IPU and the United Nations (UN) will continue to deepen and broaden in the future, said a Parliament Secretariat handout here on Wednesday, reports UNB.
During the meeting, Ban Ki-moon, who is going to complete his tenure as UN Secretary General on December 31 next, lauded the important role of IPU in mobilising the global parliamentary community in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030 and taking action on climate change.
The UN Secretary General expressed satisfaction over the growing engagement and interaction between UN and the IPU.
Saber, also the Chairman of Bangladesh Parliamentary Standing Committee on Textile and Jute Ministry, expressed IPU’s gratitude and appreciation to Ban Ki-moon for his solidarity and leadership and for being a strong voice for justice, compassion and inclusive and an untiring advocate for the youth and empowerment of women. –RH
