Importers of iron, steel hold human chain today
The Bangladesh Iron and Steel Importers' Association (BISIA) will hold a human chain in the city today (Wednesday) to press home demands including withdrawal of tariff hike on imports of raw materials of iron-based small and cottage industries.
It made the demands at a press conference in the city on Tuesday.
The other demands include examination of imported prime quality raw materials like that of secondary quality and follow the 'Valuation Rules-2000' while imposing taxes.
The association said currently the authorities follow the Valuation Rules-2000 only for importers of secondary quality steel.
If the authority does not withdraw hike in tariff, the association will close down shops and business organisations for an indefinite period in future .
