Provide medical expenses of maimed Shahnur: HC
The High Court ordered the state to bear the medical expenses of Shahnur Biswas, who lost both legs in an attack following his protest of stalking his daughters.
The High Court also ordered authorities to ensure the safety of Shahnur Biswas and his family in an order issued on Tuesday, reports bdnews24.com.
On Oct 16 Shahnur, who hails from Nolbhanga village in Jhenaidah’s Kaliganj, was attacked with iron hammers and crowbars and left battered in critical condition.
He was taken to the National Orthopaedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute for treatment, where both his legs had to be amputated above the knee.
His family claims supporters of former Union Parishad member Mahbubur Rahman were responsible for the attack.
Shahnur’s younger brother Samaul Islam has filed a case against 16 suspects at the police station. Another relative has filed a complaint against seven at the Senior Judicial Magistrate court.
On Nov 22 the High Court voluntarily took cognisance of media reports on the incident and ordered the arrest of the perpetrators within 72 hours.
The superintendent of police was ordered to submit a report by Nov 27. When the state requested more time to submit the report, the court extended the deadline to Nov 29. –RH
