Writ seeks bar on preventing entry of Rohingyas

A writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking a bar on preventing the entry of Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh.

The petition also sought a direction to open Bangladesh border for Rohingyas for a temporary period.

Lawyer Abu Yahia Dulal filed the writ petition on Monday at the related branch of High Court, a news agency reports.

The petitioner sought a rule to explain why the preventing the entry of Rohingyas should not be declared illegal and inhuman act. He also sought an interim direction before completing the hearing of the rule.

Abu Yahia Dulal said, the petition will be placed on Tuesday for hearing. The petitioner mentioned home affairs secretary, Inspector General of Police, heads of Border Guard Bangladesh and Coast Guard as the respondents.

The Myanmar army started a massive crackdown against the Rohingyas in Rakhine state after nine police officers were killed in three police outposts along the Myanmar-Bangladesh border on Oct 9. –RH
